She displayed early signs of being very talented as an infant and was captured on video before she learned to walk.
Since the age of two she has trained at the Restoration Youth Arts Academy in Brooklyn, New York under the leadership of Director, Peggy Alston in the disciplines of Ballet, Modern Dance, African, Liturgical Dance (Praise), Hip Hop, Horton, Tap, Dance and Vocal. As of October 2011, she now serves as a Teacher’s Assistant at the Youth Arts Academy for the 3 and 4 year old Creative Movement classes.
Colby Christina remains one of the youngest students to ever perform center stage at Dance Africa in conjunction with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) under the leadership of Artistic Director Baba Chuck Davis and YAA Artistic Director Karen Thornton.
She performs annually at the Restoration Youth Arts Academy Annual Recital at Brooklyn College, in solo and group capacity and she also performs annually at the Robert F. Kennedy Restoration Celebration in solo and group performances. She can also be seen annually at the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Center for Arts and Culture Youth Arts Academy Black History Month 3 & 5 Year Achievement Awards Ceremony and has received her 10 year award to add to her 3 & 5 year award.
Colby Christina is now a Member of the Restoration Youth Arts Ensemble and at her time of admission was the youngest member and is now amongst the youngest members to ever be accepted. She also now serves as the Ambassador for the Restoration Corporation’s Center for Arts and Culture.
She has been choreographing her own dances for the past few years and has declared the Performing Arts as her true passion.
Colby Christina is also a phenomenal actress who loves the art and discipline of Acting and in early 2014 at the age of 12, premiered in the Stage to TV Production, “The Liberation of Mother Goose” in the Lead role of “Alice” written by Aduke Aremu, Directed and Choreographed by Abdel-Salaam, Peggy Alston, Restoration YAA was the Director and Mario Sprouse served as Musical Director. The Liberation of Mother Goose after sold out performances is scheduled for tour dates nationally and internationally. As a result of this spectacular triple threat performance and her voluminous record to date, Colby Christina was the 2014 Recipient of the AUDELCO “Rising Star” Award. This was the 42nd year of the AUDELCO Awards and the organization under the leadership of President, Grace Jones, continues to find today’s top talent, rising stars, outstanding productions by Black companies, plays and musicals written or directed by Black artist, and featuring Black artist.
She has given spectacular performances center stage at the Museum of Natural History for their annual Kwanzaa Celebration, The Jamaica Performing Arts Theater, performs annually at the Seeds of Hope Annual Awards Dinner at The Waldorf Astoria, the Feature Performer at the Hofstra University National Center for Suburban Studies Celebration of Diversity Banquet, the Kumble Theater and at GospelFest resulting in her receiving an award from New York City Parks and Recreation. Colby Christina has appeared in the Ebony Nutcracker, performed at her maternal great grandmother’s Nonagenarian celebration, and at the Long Island Men’s Group Annual Gala. She has also appeared as the feature performer at the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity – Psi Lambda Lambda Chapter Achievement Event at the Harlem School of the Arts for their Appreciation Week Program and was awarded the Scroll of Honor in recognition of Outstanding Achievement in Music Appreciation. Colby Christina has been featured in the NYC Summer Stage Series.
For Black History Month events, Women’s History Month and other events, Colby Christina has performed the Negro National Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and she also performed dance solos at multiple venues, like the Lions Club, The United Democratic Club (where she is affectionately referred to by many as “the grand-daughter of the club”), The NAACP, Black Spectrum Theater, and at her home church to name a few.
She has also given two stellar performances at the 100 Black Men of Long Island 38th Annual Gala under the leadership of then President, Phil Andrews with Dominic Carter, American News Reporter and Political Commentator as Master of Ceremony and Susan L. Taylor, Editor in Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine and Founder, National Cares Mentoring Movement. She has also partnered with powerhouse Entertainment Attorney and owner of the SOURCE Magazine and Jones Magazine, L. Londell McMillan, Esq., for the SOURCE magazines 25th Anniversary Event. Colby Christina receives rave reviews at all of the events and at any given time has over a dozen invitations to perform, speak and participate in other arenas/events pending.
Colby Christina has received many citations, awards recognition and acknowledgements and been recognized with a Certificate of Achievement as a “Potential Leader” at the United Democratic Club for the Women’s History Month program and with a Certificate of Recognition from the New York State Senate in celebration of Women’s Month, as one of the “pillars” of our community.
Colby Christina is also a professional singer and has received many invitations to sing as well at various locations and has a standing invitation from the cast member(s) of Vy Higginson’s “Mama I Want To Sing” to join them on stage for their finale.
She has also displayed her acting and oratorical skills on the radio show “Legal Lives – Ask the D.A.”
Colby Christina was nominated by her middle school and the nomination was accepted for her to attend the Junior National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
Of course Colby Christina prides herself on being academically astute and has already been skipped one academic grade and embraced the atmosphere at the Private Independent School she attended since Grade One and she was a member of the School Choir and traveled with them to various venues in the New York City Tri-State area and to other notable private independent schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts every year for their annual school based events and she also served as Teacher’s Assistant for the lower school after school dance program. At 8th grade graduation 2014, Colby finished with many accolades/citations/proclamations, inclusive of New York City Council, New York State Assembly, New York State Senate, United States Congress and with the New York State Assembly Citation stating:
“Colby Christina at the age of 13, for being a dynamic, sincere, passionate, focused and a multi-talented Role Model who has set a precedent and set records for young adults to follow and mirror. She has successfully combined Academic Excellence with outstanding Artistic Talent since the age of two to the present as a Professional Dancer, Singer and Actress topped with her concern for her community and mankind.”
As Colby Christina prepared for High School she continued to be a pacesetter and was the first student in the 30 year history of her former Private Independent School to successfully audition for all three studios (Dance, Drama, Vocal) at the LaGuardia School of Performing Arts and the first student in the history of the Restoration Youth Arts Academy to successfully complete everything as a True Triple Threat.
As of September 2014, Colby Christina was a Freshman at a Private Independent High School and is a proud member of the Class of 2018, where she will complete High School at the age of 16.5.
Colby Christina, loves her community and has been very active in her community for many years and volunteers her time with many organizations, inclusive of Food Pantry’s, The Lions Club International and her local political Club in support of her community and elected officials all year round. Colby Christina can be seen working at various events and walking throughout her community collecting signatures for Designation Petitions, helping with Voter registration and reminding people to get out and vote prior to every election, under the leadership of her family.
She is also now a member of the ON-BROADWAY Performing Arts Program under the leadership of Broadway Star, Rema Webb (Lion King, The Book Of Morman, etc.) and Managing Director, Daniel Siford (who possesses a 30 year background in the Arts) and spends a considerable amount of time with her Vocal Trainer/Mentor the magnificent Grammy Award Winning Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Gordon Chambers working on her latest vocal creations.
Colby Christina was selected to serve as the Keynote Speaker for the Nassau County, New York, February 2015 Black History Month Celebration under the leadership of Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos at the historic African American Museum in Hempstead, New York to a capacity filled audience. She has served as the Feature Performer for the New York State Assembly Black History Celebration, Keynote Speaker for the Danny Glover ‘Power of Dreams” Women’s History Event, was the UniverSoul Circus Teen Celebrity for 2015 and has served as the Celebrity Teen at the National Black Theater Festival in the capacity of Chair and Parade Grand Marshall.
Colby is also a esteemed premier member of Women’s Fund of Long island (WFLI), GIRLSFLI component where she helps “to ignite networks that transform the lives of women and girls on Long Island through grant-making, leadership development, education and philanthropy.”
Colby has also appeared and participated in various television and radio interviews.
Colby Christina has already completed the necessary steps with the State of New York to start her own Dance company that will be launching in the near future and we must acknowledge that she accomplished most of the things listed above before she was 12 Years Old!!!
As of July 2014, Colby Christina is now a S.T.E.A. M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Advocate / Spokesperson and hopes to make a difference by stressing the importance of receiving this education as a young child and adolescent. She states “fostering this type of educational excellence prepares me and my peers to be able to compete globally.”
